How Many Chiropractic Visits To Fix A Pinched Nerve?

Pinched nerves, sciatic pain, bulging discs… are all common reasons people seek chiropractic care. Everyone wants to know the million dollar question of how long will it take to fix my problem. The honest answer is unfortunately quite vague; it depends.

It depends on a few different factors like the severity of the issue, the quality of the supporting/surrounding structures, the cause of the issue, how the injury happened… But in my clinical experience, one of the most important factors is how long has the issue been there for?

Chronic pain and acute pain are two different kettles of fish when it comes to estimating healing time-frames.
Acute pain is less than 3 months, it serves a purpose of being a warning system for the body (stop it, that hurts and is causing damage!), and it tends to respond faster to care that is targeting the root cause of the issue - what chiropractors aim to do.
Chronic pain, on the other hand, lasts for over 3 months, serves no purpose as the brain is stuck in a loop of this has been sore for so long i must keep thinking it is sore, and can impact mood, attention, sleep, and energy levels. It is because of the rewiring required to change the pain patterns in chronic pain that it can take longer to remedy. You can still get quick changes and reduction in symptoms but targeting and improving the root causes of the issues generally takes more time than acute injuries.

At Fletcher Chiropractic, we do an initial appointment to get your body’s baselines, including orthopedic/joint testing, nervous system tests (body awareness/proprioception, balance/coordination), structural assessments of your posture and mobility, as well as refer out for additional (bulk billed) imaging where necessary.

Your second appointment is where we discuss the length and frequency of your initial trial of care. We take into consideration your health goals, and barriers to care to come up with a plan that will suit your circumstances and what you want to get out of your body through care.

Get in touch with us to ask any specific questions you might have about your current health state!
